BODY
Our nervous system responds immediately to what we see, how well we sleep, eat, and breathe.
VAGUS NERVE
“The Wanderer” whose purpose is to relay signals between the brain and various body systems. It regulate heart rate, speech, sweating, blood pressure, digestion, glucose production, and breathing.
(ANS) AUTONOMIC NERVOUSSYSTEM
Controlled by the breath alone, the ANS decides whether a new environment or game situation dangerous or safe. Stressful situations trigger our sympathetic nervous system is triggered. While a relaxed environment engages our parasympathetic.
When we can understand and control our breath, then we can control our response.
ENTERIC SYSTEM
“Second Brain” because this system is enmeshed within the stomach. It is influenced by the ANS but can work separately from it. What you eat effects what you think and how you move.
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
Brain (+ eyes) and spinal cord. Center of our thoughts, interpreter of our external environment, and where body control starts. When there is disruption in one, the other doesn’t function as you’ve trained it.
PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
“Rest and Digest” half of the ANS.
- Constricts Eyes
- Decrease Heart Rate
- Stimulates Digestion
SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM
“Flight or flight” half of the ANS.
- Eyes Dilate
- Increase Heart Rate
- Stimulates Glucose Release
- Adrenal Production
- Slows Digestion
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
Made up of nerves that branch off from the spinal cord and extend to all parts of the body.
